Ceramic glass fiber at High Temperatures

Both glass fibers and ceramic fibers are inorganic and non-metallic materials. They are all silicates. They can be used as structural materials - that is, they emphasize mechanical properties, and they can also be used as functional materials - that is, they emphasize the characteristics of electro-acoustic and magnetic properties, but:

1. In general, glass is generally an amorphous material. The fiber is formed by melting a drawn wire. The ceramic has a crystal structure. The fiber is grown by solution or melt into the seed crystal. Of course, it can also be synthesized chemically. Or decomposition methods;

2. In general, glass fiber can be drawn very long, and can be cut as required according to the requirements; while ceramics are difficult to control due to the influence of process conditions, and it is difficult to grow long fibers.

 3. Generally speaking, the glass fiber has lower temperature resistance, and the biggest use is to make fiberglass; ceramic fiber has higher temperature resistance, and the largest use is as structural material of firebrick, but generally it does not form a fabric;

 4. The above can only be said in general, but there are special circumstances, such as: carbon fiber as a special case of ceramic fibers, it can form a fabric, its application is very wide, from high-temperature refractory materials, friction structural materials, rocket heat insulation materials, radar Stealth materials and civilian fishing rods have their display.
